Favicons, the small pictures that appear next to a site’s URL in a visitor’s browser, are an important part of Web site branding. Google has a multi-colored G. Facebook has a blue F. Even Microsoft uses a dark blue M.

Creating a Favicon for your Web site is fairly easy, especially with a tool like Favigen. Previously, we wrote about how you could create a FavIcon using a website called Dynamic Drive, but we like Favigen better.

To quickly create a Favicon, go to the Favigen homepage and click Choose Image. Upload your site’s logo. If your logo is especially large, crop the logo to just a picture or the first letter with a graphic editor before uploading.

Favigen is a quick way to size and save a favicon in the right format, which is ideal for Web novices wanting to add to their branding. For the more tech-savvy among us, we could do the same exact thing in about the same amount of time with a graphic editor.
