The pink top wouldn't be so bad if it was paired with white capris for a ride on a boat, or with a casual skirt and sandals for a trip to the park. The color and style make no sense at all with this skirt. The second look is so good that we can forgive the first one. First one would have looked better if she'd worn the same top the model's wearing.
But you know what? Who cares! Look how much fun she's having! Just looking at those photos made me smile. The only thing missing was that she should have worn a Cat-in-the-Hat hat. Now that would definitely have been a FLOTUS first! I really wish she had done a plain white top with the first outfit. It would have fit the theme, even though it may have been taken as dressing a little too literal. Still it would have worked better AND helped that pin she has on.
Second outfit is a go all the way around. Those boots are indeed fab. Cat in the Hat has been translated into many, many languages. I have a copy in Latin (!) and a friend uses the Chinese translation in his ESL classes.
Even though #1 outfit doesn't really work, I'll take that look over all those boring, boxy Laura Bush suits any day of the week. Hooray for a FLOTUS with attitude.
I bet those kids loved #1 outfit too, and that day was all about the kids.
