In the surreal whirl of activity that was menswear day at London Fashion Week, it was truly a case of saving the best for last.  In the sparse, industrial environs of Covent Garden’s Mercer Street Studio, Oliver Spencer rounded off the day perfectly with a collection that provided a contemporary take on the best of classic British menswear. And the incredibly accomplished collection seemed all the more impressive when we learnt that it was the self-taught tailor’s debut runway show.
Many designers profess to combine old school British sartorialism with iconic American sportswear, but not many do it with as much aplomb as Mr. Spencer. We loved the autumnal colour palette, sleek tweed tailoring, rolled up chinos and jeans with brogues, and the use of camo fabric on jackets and trousers throughout.  The beautifully crafted leather and sheepskin jacket pictured above was a standout piece, but perhaps the best part of it all was the mix of male models and ‘real people’ who took to the catwalk, reviving the flagging attention of the flailing onlookers and truly bringing the clothes to life.
